The Virginia Coasters october campout was a joint campout with the Tidewater TASCAʼs held at the R.V. Resort at Carolina Crossroads, Roanoke rapids, N.C. Since our last
visit to this campground they have completed the main building which was just a slab thenʼ The new building is real nice and contains the Office, Rest Rooms with showers,
Laundry room, a Rally Room with a complete kitchen, lots of tables and chairs, and a big screen T.V. They have also added a swimming pool and Hot tub. Each club had 7
coaches in attendance
After arriving on Thursday we spent time socializing then having supper at our gazebo which consisted of Hot Dogs hot potato salad, macaroni salad, coconut cake and
pistachio pie. After supper we watched a beautiful red full moon rise over the trees.
Friday we cooked breakfast at our gazebo, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, toast & juice after our fill we took off exploring. Of coarse the “Riverside Mill
Antique Mall” was a big hit, the old restored Cotton Mill building it self is worth the trip. It contains antiques, crafts and a QVC clothing outlet [do you think Linda
went there]. It has expanded since our last visit, Also visited were the Roanoke Canal Museum and River Falls Park. For supper we cooked brunswick stew and shared with
the TASCAʼs. John Snow was the “Master Chef” for this event while some of the men helped out by shooting pool while he stirred the pot, he really did get some help though.
The Stew turned out real good and all enjoyed it and had there fill.
Saturday morning the TASCAʼs cooked breakfast for ll of us and what a breakfast it was. Omelets to order, bacon, sausage, grits, fried potatoes, pancakes, donuts, juice
and coffee, no one went hungry. After breakfast we had our meeting, after lunch we took a walking tour of Historic Halifax visiting buildings and homes from the 1700ʼs,
followed by a film at the visitors center. We had a great tour guide and everyone enjoyed the tour, Bob Wright from the TASCAʼs grew up there and we even passed his old
house. That evening both clubs went to “Davids Restaurant” in Roanoke Rapids for supper.
It was a great weekend with good fellowship and beautiful weather, both clubs had a great time, if you missed this campout you missed a good one.
